Legal
Terms of Service
The agreement between you and Currents. We've kept it short and tried to keep the legalese minimal.
Effective January 1, 2026
The short version
Currents is a personal finance tracker, not financial advice. You use it to record your own data. We do our best to make it reliable and accurate, but we can't guarantee uptime or historical FX rates. Don't make tax, investment, or financial decisions purely on Currents' numbers without verifying them. You can leave anytime; we'll never hold your data hostage.
Agreement
These Terms of Service form a legal agreement between you and Currents (operated by an independent developer based in Dhaka, Bangladesh). By creating an account or using Currents, you accept these terms. If you don't accept them, please don't use the service.
Your account
You need an account to use Currents. You're responsible for:
- Providing accurate sign-up information (real email; we send security alerts there)
- Keeping your password confidential
- Activity that happens under your account, including sessions on devices you've signed into
- Notifying us if you suspect unauthorized access
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, whichever is higher) to use Currents.
Your content
The transactions, accounts, categories, budgets, notes, and tags you create in Currents are yours. You retain all rights to them. We don't claim ownership, license, or any other right to use them beyond what's strictly required to operate the service for you.
We don't share your data with anyone except the infrastructure providers required to run the service (described in our Privacy Policy), and we don't sell it.
You can export all your data as CSV anytime from Settings → Data.
Acceptable use
Don't use Currents to:
- Break any applicable law
- Hack, probe, or attack the service or other users
- Send automated traffic, scrape, or otherwise abuse our APIs
- Impersonate someone else or misrepresent your identity
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from any part of the service
- Use the service to store data on behalf of someone who hasn't agreed to these terms (i.e., don't set up Currents as a service for other people without their consent)
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section without notice if necessary to protect the service or other users.
Changes to the service
Currents is an evolving product. We may add features, remove features, change designs, or modify how things work. We'll give reasonable notice of material changes that affect data or paid features. We won't silently break features you actively rely on.
Fees
Currents is currently free for personal use. We may introduce paid plans in the future (a “Pro” tier with recurring transactions, receipt attachments, and similar features). When we do:
- The free tier remains free
- Existing features won't be moved to paid plans without notice and a reasonable transition window
- Paid plans will have clear terms — what you pay, what you get, how to cancel — before checkout
Third-party data accuracy
Currents fetches historical foreign-exchange rates from Frankfurter, which sources from the European Central Bank. We cache these rates and use them to convert transactions. We don't guarantee their accuracy, completeness, or availability — they're a best-effort reference, not authoritative financial data. Don't use Currents' converted amounts for tax filings or financial reporting without independently verifying the rates against the source you're required to use.
Termination
You can delete your account anytime from Settings → Data. Deletion triggers a 30-day grace period during which you can restore the account. After 30 days, all your data is permanently and irreversibly purged.
We can terminate or suspend your account if you violate these terms, if your activity threatens the service, or if we're required to by law. We'll try to give notice when feasible.
On termination, your right to use Currents ends. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (intellectual property, warranties, liability limits) will survive.
Warranties and disclaimers
Currents is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties — express, implied, statutory — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability, and non-infringement.
We don't guarantee that Currents will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will meet your specific requirements. Currents is not a financial advisor, accountant, or tax professional. Anything it tells you about your money is the result of arithmetic on the data you entered and the FX rates we fetched — not professional advice.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, neither Currents nor its operator will be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including lost profits, lost data, business interruption, or loss of goodwill — arising from your use of (or inability to use) the service.
Our total cumulative liability for any claim related to the service won't exceed the greater of (a) what you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) one hundred US dollars ($100 USD).
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Currents and its operator harmless from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the service, your content, or your violation of these terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Bangladesh, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of Dhaka, Bangladesh, unless local consumer protection laws in your country give you a non-waivable right to bring proceedings there.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms over time. When we make material changes, we'll notify you by email and post the updated version here at least 14 days before it takes effect. Continued use of Currents after the effective date means you accept the updated terms. If you don't accept them, delete your account before they take effect.
